eMerge: Danny Simmons & Artists on the Cusp Closing Reception includes a meet and greet with exhibiting artists

Nona Hendryx, the legendary funk-rock singer will make a special appearance (non-performance) in support of eMerge: Danny Simmons & Artists on the Cusp during its closing reception on Thursday September 6, 6-8PM. The free event is anchored by the works of visual artist Danny Simmons, co-founder of Rush Arts Gallery + Resource Center, a core program of the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation. Danny, brother of Russell Simmons, is also the co-creator and executive producer of the HBO series Def Poetry Jam and a published author. The exhibition is co-curated by Lisa D. Hayes, Esq., manager of Strivers Gardens Gallery, and event/media content producer Souleo of Souleo Enterprises, LLC. Guests will have the opportunity to view the works of and interact with the exhibition’s artists, many of whom repurpose everyday materials like teabags, thumbtacks and buttons into fine art.

Nona Hendryx’s legendary career spans six decades of sound and style evolution. Longtime Nona Hendryx fans know her as one of the founding members of the iconic rock funk group, LaBelle (with Sarah Dash and lead singer Patti LaBelle). Nona Hendryx, who recently released her first full-length solo CD in twenty years, Mutatis Mutandis is also a longtime supporter of the visual arts community.

"I am excited to see the work by Danny Simmons and the other art exhibited at Strivers Garden Gallery,” said Nona Hendryx. "I live in New York and I'm exposed to a great deal of visual artists and I'm always learning about new and wonderful art, sometimes in my own neighborhood. With my recent involvement in my first group show with Gina Raphaela and Francesca Galliani at CATM CHELSEA gallery, curated by David Zelikovsy I am even more engaged and excited to find new gems!”

After breaking attendance records for opening night and receiving media support from NBC, the NY Times, NY Daily News, Ebony.com, rollingOut and more, eMerge: Danny Simmons & Artists on the Cusp has created a platform for promoting emerging, mid-career and established artists.
