Changing Perceptions Theater, The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and the Creative Collective proudly present a revival of HOMAGE 3: ILLMATIC, an original play by Shaun Neblett that was developed from NaS' Illmatic and pays homage to themes and lyrics of the classic album. Come see the play that African American scholar Dr. Michael Eric Dyson stated is,"...a great play that evokes a sense of history and a sense of intimacy with people who nurture you, surround you and are a mystery to you."

DESCRIPTION: HOMAGE 3: ILLMATIC tells the story of the “every-artist.” Ron is a gym teacher by day, but his passion lies in photography. A life changing experience forces Ron to decide if he will mute his desire to be an artist or rise to a new artistic plateau. Award-winning playwright Shaun Neblett cleverly intertwines lyrics and themes from Illmatic in this original tale, making it a tribute to NaS’ classic album. As one reviewer writes in The Stark Life “The rapper's bars come alive on stage through HOMAGE 3: ILLMATIC which deliberately shows how intellectually well-versed NAS truly is and, much bigger than that, how much Hip-Hop has to offer, culturally, outside of the radio, clubs and the street.
