Manna House is hearing musically talented boys and girls ages 8-15 for their chorus and band ensemble.
Band members must have at least one year of music training on their instrument. The song learned will also be choreographed for the singers. There is a performance on August 27th.
One on one classes are in session Monday through Friday by appointment in piano, voice, strings, brass and woodwind instruments.
A registration for fall classes will be held the last week in September. All classes resume in October.

Manna House Workshops is a performing arts center in East Harlem offering one-on-one classes for children and adults in piano, drums, guitar, voice, woodwinds, strings and brass and group lessons in dance, chorus, sight-singing and theory. We also have a jazz concert series from February through June on the first Sunday of each month. Our rates are the lowest among the community music schools in New York City. Manna House has been in existence for the past 43 years and is the oldest performing arts center in East Harlem.

Japanese Taiko Drum: Family Performance
Join Taikoza, a thunderous Japanese percussion group that uses large, barrel-like taiko drums, shakuhachi, bamboo flutes known as fue, and the Koto – a 13-stringed instrument, for a fabulous performance of music and dance based on forms traditionally performed at Japanese festivals. The audience will be introduced to all of the instruments and learn the history of the festivals they represent. Presented in collaboration with Community Works and in conjunction with the exhibition Samurai in New York: The First Japanese Delegation, 1860. Free with Museum admission.

Paper Doll Couture: Family Fashion Workshop
Children will learn about the creation of personal style as revealed in the exhibition Notorious & Notable: Twentieth Century Women of Style. Participants will view garments and jewelry of 80 prominent New York women who captured the attention of society and the media. After touring the exhibition, participants can design their own fashion statements and make them come to life on their own couture paper dolls. Free with Museum admission.
Silkscreen Print Frenzy Workshop With Master Printer Carlos Uribe
Saturday, August 21st 10 a.m.-2 p.m., $50
Silkscreen Print Frenzy is a four hour immersion workshop devoted to printing silkscreen on fabric or t-shirts. Using HTW screens and some paper stencils, participants will spend the day collaging images onto fabric or t-shirts. The aim of this experience is to learn all the steps involved in printing while creating a very unique keepsake. Fabric will be provided,but participants should bring t-shirts or other items if they would like to print on these items.

Arts in Education
The Arts in Education program is made up of three components: The School Day Program, Early Childhood & Special Education, and Artists in Residence. The School Day and Early Childhood Programs provide art instruction for children and their teachers and other service agencies, citywide. Each year, numerous schools and agencies, from all five boroughs and with average class sizes averaging 25 to 30 students, travel to The Carnival to receive services through this program. As part of the Arts in Education Program, The Carnival also provides schools and service agencies with Artists in Residence. In these partnerships, The Carnival’s teaching artists provide art instruction in the classroom for ten weeks, one semester, or full year collaborations.

The Children’s Art Carnival offers workshops throughout the week and on Saturdays to children ages 4-13. These workshops are designed to present a wide variety of artistic techniques in a manner that is both engaging and recreational. All workshops provide hands-on instruction with an emphasis on gaining artistic expertise through learning to understand and express oneself. After School and Saturday programming includes the following workshops: Multi-Media, Creative Arts, Ceramics & Sculpture, and Creative Media Arts.
Communication Arts Production/(New Generation of Artists): The Communication Arts Program (CAP/NGOA) is a highly competitive program that provides young people, ages 12-21, with pre-professional instruction and experience to prepare them for post-secondary education and career development in the arts. Activities within the program are media-based and are geared toward engaging young people in critical perception and analysis of both art and the world around them. Students develop skills in various mediums and genres including, graphic design, video production, comic illustration, photography, drawing and painting. Students collaborate to produce several community-based events throughout the year.

New Song Community Corporation
New Song Community Corporation is excited to host the twice-weekly songwriting project, under the direction of Tevin Thomas, who will volunteer his services to the community, beginning in September 2010. The project will help our young people address issues of self-expression, thought-process, conflict resolution and emotional management through the skills of critical thinking developed by the creative process of songwriting. Through the creation of original songs, the youth will develop social skills and self- respect.
Who: Young people ages 11-16 Where: New Song Community Center 121st and Frederick Douglas When: Begins the first week of September & meets twice a week after-school for 1 hour. Ends in December. What:The youth will record a CD of 5 to 6 songs in 4 months
The Song Project will address:
Young people will understand intellectual property and copyrights
Students will study music theory, keyboards and producing
Students will gain knowledge of themselves and the music business
